We have had an invoice from a company based in Dublin, when we sent the PO we did not include VAT as the company is not in the UK. However now we have received the invoice, they have said that they are registered for VAT in the UK and have applied VAT at 20%, I do not understand this as the address on the invoice is Dublin. Can anyone advise?

Is it reverse VAT? This is common for companies in Ireland0

If they are VAT registered in the UK then they have to charge you UK VAT, have you checked their VAT number to make sure they are registered here?0
