Good afternoon everyone,


I got a question regarding job titles. Currently I am working as Accounts Payable in a company as a maternity cover. I have completed my level2,3 and want to finish my level 4 by coming summer hopefully and start ACCA.

As my position is temporary I am thinking what role is to pursue next. I want to eventually be financial officer/go towards financial accountant roles. Is it better for me to look for same positions as AP and maybe senior roles in that field or is it better to look for different positions such as accounts assistant etc. I am not sure which job position is better progression to my end goal - financial accountant.

AP is a great place to start, however to get a full understanding you’ll need to get some AR experience as well. I’d try to get either a finance assistant role which combines AR and AP or an Billing/AR assistant role, then move up. This is more attractive to people recruiting for senior roles if you understand the full picture.
