There seems to be some errors in given answers for part A (see screenshot below)
Basic Pay: 12 x 30 hours = 360
Overtime weekend: 4 x 24 = 96
Are AAT aware of these? can they not update the PDF documents with the corrections?
And for part C the given answer is 14736. Could anyone provide workings to get to this number as I cant work it out.
It would involve...
- Multiplying the total weekly figure by no weeks in a month (usually its 4.5)
- Multiplying that answer by the number of people (6)
- Adding the bonus on for 6 people
With the errors in part A, im not sure if this is an error also?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are no errors. Basic pay is made on all hours and then the premium is added separately
Basic Pay = 40 * 12 = £480
Week overtime = 6 * 12 * 0.5 = £36
Weekend overtime = 4*12 = £48
Total Gross = £564
For c):
You are told there are 4 weeks in the month so
Single employee = 564 * 4 +200 = 2456
6 Employees = £14,736AAT Level 4, MAAT

Thanks Pian32 for this
Part C
Your explanation of this makes sense and I can see they referenced 4 weeks in the question.
Part A
BASIC PAY- Where did you get 40 from if its a 30 hour week?
WEEKEND OVERTIME - 2 x basic pay would surely make the hourly rate 24 (2 x 12) your calculation has just calculated it at the basic pay rate rate (£12 per hour)
Unless I'm missing something here?0 -
Hi Ja98200er
Basic pay - Yes it's a 30 hour week however the calculations are done so that every hour is recorded as a basic pay then any premium separately. This means that the full 40 hours worked are included in basic pay (36 in the week and 4 weekend) at the basic rate.
Weekend overtime - This is because the basic rate portion is already accounted for in the basic pay section so although the effective hourly rate is £24, £12 pounds has already been accounted for. This means the additional per hour is 24-12 = £12
I hope that helps clear it up.
Pay questions can be a little tricky as they can use 2 different start points for calculation. Either as a basic/premium or as a standard/overtime. It's important to identify which way around it is in the tables. Both calculations should give the same total however so it shouldn't impact future parts to questions.AAT Level 4, MAAT

Hi Pian32
Ok thanks very much, yes that does clear it up. I do find that approach a little strange however and it adds a layer of uneeded complexity. And from memory, that isnt how is presented to workers on their wage slip. I guess I just havent come across the basic/premium approach at places I've worked at. The main thing I know this is how it can work too.
I appreciate you taking the time to take me through that.
Thanks
