Did anyone get overwhelmed by the lists of ledgers?

I am getting frustrated at my comprehension of the ledgers. Just as I feel I am getting somewhere it all goes out of the window for me.
One diagram shows prime entry-sales ledger-general ledger then another shows prime entry-general ledger-sales ledger.
The different explanations between the Eagle Education Study Buddy, The AAT study and the Osborne books is sending me round the bend. I am at the point where I don't know if entries are all in one book with different headers or in several different ledger books.
How did everyone else cope with this information?
For information, I am home learning with Eagle Education, currently on Bookkeeping transactions.
