AAT to ACCA

Hi everyone.
I am a full MAAT member but do not currently work within accountancy. I’m giving consideration to pursuing the ACCA qualification and have a few questions for those here that have done likewise.
Is there a time limit to exam exemptions?
I know that full AAT L4 qualification gave exemption to the first tranche of ACCA exams but was wondering if there was a time limit to this exemption.
Do I need to to be working in an accounting role to pursue the qualification?
I’m aware of the three year work role but also aware that it doesn’t have to be all in a single block so would be planning to continue my current role before switching back to accounting nearer ACCA qualification and combining previous work into that more current role to get the required time.
How large a jump in academic standards is it from AAT L4 to the ACCA?
How many entirely new skills/topics are taught and how many of the units are just much deeper understandings of AAT units?
What are your experiences of ACCA as an organisation both as a student and fully qualified member?
Thank you in advance.
