Sitting Level 4 Synoptic before a main unit exam?

First of all, I'll preface (as answers I've received in other forums I don't believe have answered my question) - I know that the Synoptic exam has elements of MABU, MDCL & FSLC, plus learning about Accounting Systems and Controls, so sitting all the units first and then the Synoptic exam is the recommended route for the AAT qualification.

My question is - can I sit the Synoptic Exam BEFORE sitting MDCL? Or is it absolutely compulsory (not just recommended, but ALSO compulsory) that I have to sit all the main units first, AND THEN Synoptic?

I intend to learn the MDCL syllabus before the Synoptic exam, but I would like to sit the Synoptic exam in the November window, and then sit the MDCL in early December, as that is the way the Synoptic window plus general exam availability is for me. My issue is that the following Synoptic Windows in January and March 2023, I am highly unlikely to be available to sit in, and I want to get this qualification over and done with ASAP.

Thanks in advance!
Huw

As you say, I believe it is advisory to sit the unit assessment before the synoptic, but it is not compulsory - at least not within an apprenticeship.
