Hi,

I actually managed to balance both my trial balance on Section 1 and the balance sheet on Section 2. However it took me a while to work out that you had to minus the provision for doubtful debts from the total of debtors.

Could anyone tell me what closing stock figure they took for the trial balance in Section 1.

Thanks
what did u get for the first trial balance?coz mine dint balance probably coz of the rent i think i messd it up or the capital figure. i only got the ETB and balance sheet balanced but the provision for doubtful debts even tho u have to minus from debtors i added it coz it wouldnt match with the capital finance and drawings. there waz a difference of 795 i think it was which waz the prov for doubtful debts.

absolutely right - the prov for doubtful debts is a CR to reduce the debtors figure in the BS but it also needs to be charged to the P&L as a DR in the current year - on the TB you would have needed to enter both the DR and CR to balance
