Was that a limiting factor question about 60000 litres?

I think I totally messed it up... No idle time either (except me sitting there trying to sort that question out). I think I just averaged the total materials available and added it on to closing stock if it wasn't needed for sales.

Hopefully I can scrape through on my mis-lead workings...

Oh well, roll on June!!

em

    PCR Section1??

I was Just wondering how did everyone decide how much material put in period 1 and how much in period 2. as far as I remember there was 13600 shortage alltogether in periods 3 and 4. we could move 7200 to period 2 and the rest to period 1. and it looks like most did it that way. but I didn't!!!!!!!!!!!!!they were talking about this holding cost in the question so if we moved 7200 to period 2 and the rest to 1 it would make the closing stock of period 3 much higher than in period 1. so I moved most to period 1 and the rest to 2 (just calculated it in a way that the closing stocks both in period 1 and 2 were the same.
did anyone thought about it?

    PCR Section1??

    What I did was...

Worked out how much the excess of material in P1 and P2 could make and add it on the the closing stock for that period.

I ended up with production of 30000 for all 4 periods. Obviously wrong as it made the rest of the section WAY too easy... I tried to work it out in the hour I had left at the end but couldn't get P4 production to be less than 30000.. Goodness did I make a mess of that question...

em

    PCR Section1??

i only had £4800 surplus from period 3 to reschedual so i just put it all onto period 2. it only made the closing stock figure slightly higher than 1 of the others so didnt think it made much difference. im getting a bit worried now because i thought the paper wasnt too bad. but seems everyone has a different answer. i was also curious about idle time. there wasnt any was there?

    PCR Section1??

    Hiya,

I worked out that there was some idle time in the first month, this was because the production for that month (cant remember figures) only needed about 4700hrs, where as the workers were guranteed a minimum working week of 5600 hrs. So I charged the 4700hrs to production and the remaining hrs to the factory overheads, as this it what it told you to do with any idle time???

    PCR Section1??

I remember my first month being something, then the other three months being to capacity of 60,000 after I'd rescheduled. So for the rest of the section I had the first month being different to the other three periods which were all the same. Dont know if that was right or not, but I came out with another lady and she'd done exactly the same as me!

Mandy

Mandy001 3 Dec is right. Maximum prod'n in last 3 periods = shortest holding of stock = lowest cost of stock holding. Always work backwards from latest period.
