hi,
I am currently working in a non-financial role and am studying intermediate AAT, and was wondering about trying to do some book-keeping work 'on the side'.
Does anyone have any hints or tips they would like to share ? Or basically anything thing they may think I'll find useful (or give me some confidence to actually do it!!).......

I think the only piece of advice is that you really do want to study accounting, because if your heart is not in it then you will struggle.

There is no short cut or easy way I can advise I am afraid, just study study study....!0 -

Hi !

I second what Michelle has said about really wanting to do accounts. You don't have to be fantastic at maths, just have a logical and structured mind.

However, i am on the understanding that to work as a bookkeeper, you have to have certain quali's....can anyone verify this???

However, as my "RSA 1 Bookkeeping" tutor suggested, start off by doing your own personal finances, and run them similar to a business. Keep your bank transactions on (e.g.) Excel, keep and record all receipts and cheque stubs, etc. That will give you a really good but simple idea of the way finances work in a business.

Good luck!
Helenx0 -
