There is no standard pass mark. The AAT are very hard at marking the papers as well. BAscially the papers are always made up of 2 sections , you require compentecy at their level to pass BOTH sections. I think its around 37.5% per section needed to pass.

So basically its about 75% to pass a paper then ?

Presumably you either pass or fail, there's no middle ground ?

Thanks

Nicky :-)

Yep about 75%-ish overall. But you can get everything correct in section one of the paper and not high enough in section 2 and you FAIL................

you will never knwo what your marks was either, you just get either a C or NC ona certificate..............

Can you request a copy of your paper afterwards to check against the answers when they're published ?

You have to show competency in both sections of one paper so aim for 75% in each section.

Yes you can request a remark and have feedback on a failed paper, but I think its about £35 and of course takes a couple of months.

Mandy
Yeah I think Mandy is right in saying its around 75% in EACH section, rather than 75% divided between the two sections (37.5% pass rate wouldnt be that difficult would it?). And we've been told that you have to be 'competent' in both sections, so even if you got 100% right in section 1, but only 20% right in Section 2, you'd fail the whole thing.

Thats not to scare you though! Although ive always heard that the pass rate is somewhere round 75%, I think it changes depending on how hard the exam is (i.e. if majority of people get one particular bit wrong, the AAT take this into account)

Good luck!

So by your calculations pookie you are saying 75% out of 100% of each section!!!!!!!!!!! Think again that would bring a total of 150% bringing the total of the paper 200%. It can only be 100% can it not?????

I got this reply from AAT themselves if it helps:

Percentage pass marks are not allocated to AAT examinations as the mark will be completely different between different sittings and between different sections of the same paper, however, the standard looked for is very high.
AAT examinations are competence based assessments and are quite different in character from a traditional examination. In a conventional examination you may have a pass mark of 40%, the percentage required to gain competence in an AAT exam can be as high as 70%. The percentage is intentionally high as the standard for competence is set in terms of acceptability in the workplace, therefore, it should be appreciated that an employer would not be satisfied with an employee who was only 40% capable of doing their job.

Makes sense I suppose...........

Nicky :-)
Percentages

If 75% of a bag of apples were rotten & 75% of a bag of oranges were rotten, that means that 75% of all the fruit is rotten (not 150% of 200%!) See above argument.
Anyway, talking of rotten fruit I'm just going to check my plums! (LOL)

Happy Christmas all
