Hi
I started Technician in September at FTC and I've found it a big step up from Intermediate. There is a lot more work involved, Technician is very demanding. However, I have studied with FTC since Foundation level and they have been excellent.

It's thanks to them I've passed my exams, I would highly recommend the revision courses. I found the Technician ones extremly helpful.0 -
I, too, am on day release and have just taken exams for PCR / PEV. The work load does increase, but so long as you keep on top of it, you'll be fine.

Try and get hold of as many past papers as you can and thoroughly cover all questions/answers in the back of the FTC textbook. I've found that the PEV/PCR FTC book is slightly weak in some areas of the syllabus (i.e does not cover all of the AAT performance criteria). The small 'Summary' guidance notes are extremely useful for reading on the train, lunchtimes, etc.

As for the optional units and DFS, I can't advise as I'm just about to study them.

Hope this helps,
Ben
0 -

I started Technician in September, but with my commitments I have found a college which I can do one evening a week over a 2 year period as with a large family and work it would be difficult to do otherwise. You may well ask at your local colleges they may allow you to do it over the same time. The other college where I did the Intermediate had let someone do it the following year (Financial side) as the student was struggling to cope with commitments and job. It's usually the tutor who would be able to advise you.0 -
