I work for a property company at the moment and do all the day to day accounting for the holding company and its subsidiary companies (about 10 in total). I do all the AP, AR, payroll, bank recs, journals etc., taking the accounts to trial balance stage and assisting with the audit and production of management accounts.

I am thinking of moving jobs and the problem is I've no idea what I could go for (this was my first full accounting job). Also my job title at the moment does not reflect what I actually do.

Anyone any suggestions as to the level of job I could go for as I am completely confused by the range of job titles for what sometimes appears to be the same job content.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Job Advice
Hi

I too used to work for a property company, however I had been working in accounting for about 7 years by that point, therefore I didn't have any problems moving on. I guess the jobs you are looking for will all be determined by what salary you want, and that will indicate what level you are at. I am in Edinburgh and look online at www.s1jobs.co.uk which gives you a rough idea of what jobs are out there and at what salary/level!

What level in AAT are you now at??

Good luck in your search!

S0 -

HI

I would probably say to hang off till you have finished either Intermediat (then you will at least have your NVQ 3 to show on your CV) or wait till the end of AAT studies before moving. What type of property company do you work in? I was in Residential property management for 3/4 years.

S0 -

Hi,

my advice would be to sign on with some recruitment agencies - Hays is a good one for accounting, they will be able to match your skills with the relevant job. you will also be able to tell them what sort of salary you would like.

They won`t tell you rubbish becaude it`s in their best interest to match the right person to the right job.

Good luck!!0
