My college has just informed me that it is usual, but not compulsory, to show an employee's tax code on their wageslip. This doesn't sound correct to me, but I've been unable to find any reference to this in any employment legislation. Can anyone confirm the relevent legislation?

    compulsory information on wageslip

    Hello,

I have the FTC text book (2004). On page 261 it says the compulsory items on a pay slip are:
The employer's name
The employee's name
The date
The total gross pay showing the calculation where it comprises elements such as bonuses over time etc
The employee's pension contribution (if any)
Other decuctions from or adjustments to pay. If a set amount is deducted each pay day the breakdown need not be shown providing the employee was given the details earlier.
Total gross pay to date for PAYE purposes
Total tax paid to date in the current tax year and tax due this pay day.
NI contributions due this pay day
Net pay.

The PAYE code is not compulsory

Hope this helps.
