We run our fork trucks, heating and an industrial kiln on gas oil which is serviced by four bunded tanks.
When we receive the invoices from our supplier., four invoices for four tanks.
Two invoices are at 5% VAT and the other two are at the standard rate of 17.5%.

Even though some of our supply tanks have multi-functionality, i.e. supply our fork trucks and our heating and kiln systems' the invoices seem to be random as to weather 5% of 17.5% VAT is charged.
We donâ??t have any facility to measure which uses which amount of fuel.

Can anyone see any sense in why the VAT rate seems to be random please?

Thanks

Paul T
VAT on fuel
Hi paul,

Have you tried calling their accounts department as they should be able to tell you, if you have no luck there then I would suggest you call Customs and Excise as they WILL be able to help you.

Dawn0 -

VAT on fuel
Seemingly the government introduced a scheme a couple of years ago whereby all deliveries of fuel oil less than 2300 litres would be @ VAT rate of 5% regardless of use.
This seems to be in line with the fact that the maximum size of a domestic fuel oil tank used for heating is also 2300 litres.0
