Can anyone tell me the difference between the skills tests and the simulations? I'm studying at home with BPP and one of the practice skills tests is actually referred to a a simulation so I'm a bit confused now.

Any clues?

    Skills Test/Simulation

    Hi

Must admit I get confused by all the jargon, and I would have said that they were both one and the same, however I have been doing my portfolio, and noticed that I have a sheet called "Jargon Buster" which states....

Simulation;

A simulated workplace exercise devised by either the AAT or your AAC, which is taken under controlled conditions to prove competence.

Skills Test;

A method of assessment of a variety of evidence which is used by AAC's and checked by an internal verifier.

(NB# AAC's means Approved Assessment Centre)

So basically the simulation is like an exam on each unit which you sit for the 3 hours under controlled conditions, and the skills tests are the tests set by your college which you do as homework, and then get signed off by your tutor, which you can then put into your portfolio.

Hope this clears up any confusion.

Tracy

    Skills Test/Simulation

    Hi

I am doing this course at college not from home. I should imagine that the skills tests and simulations are the same though.

I have just sat the Skills Test for unit 2, this was done at West Notts College, under exam conditions.

I was also given Extra Portfolio Activity 2004/05, Simulation D 1951 on Accounting, Making and Recording Payments. I am allowed to work on this at home and it will be marked by my tutor.

I have to show competency in the Skills Test and complete the Extra Portfolio activity to a standard that is OK with the tutor to have this unit signed off, both the skills test and the extra portfolio activity will then go into my AAT Portfolio. I have already sat the skills test and completed the extra portfolio activity for Unit 1.

Then I suppose it will be the same again for unit 3. Then there is the central exam in June to look forward to (NOT!!)

Hope this helps you at all
Greengodess
