Hi

I am currently in the middle of foundation year and i am really enjoying the course. I am desperate to find a job related to the course so i can build up some experience as it seems that is one thing that most prospective employers are searching for

The question remains does anyone know how to get a job in this area without any experience?I have hunted up and down via jobcentre, web searches, newspapers etc. And it seems that nobody is willing to give somebody without any experience a try.

I just wondered if anybody out there had been through any similar experiences and could offer me any words of advice.

Thanks

Darren

Jobs?????
Hi

The only advice I would suggest in your situation, (other than keep on trying - don't give up!!), is to perhaps look for voluntary work, or asking round local clubs etc to see if you could do their accounts. Iknow this isn't an ideal solution, but if you could fit this around your current job it would give you the valuable experience that a future employer is looking for.

Good luck!

Tracy0 -
Jobs?????
I'm interested in this too.

I have just been made redundant and also moving to Sheffield where I will be looking for a new job. I'm 36 and have found that I have to compete with 16 - 18 year olds which seem to be a better bet. So if anyone has any advice about what sort of job to look for it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Nick

PS Good Luck in your search Darren0 -

Jobs?????
Hi

Your best bet is to talk to a specific accountancy recruitment agency and find out what would be the best route for you both. It is in the agencies best interest to place you so they will want to find you a position that will suit. If you are looking in london Nigel Lynn is very good, but there are a lot around.

Good luck to you both

Em0 -
Jobs?????
I agree with Em.

When I left Uni I was pretty much given a job. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I stayed there for 4.5 years. I had always wanted to be an accountant but 2 weeks work experience put me off!! (Thought they were the most boring people I'd ever met!)

I approached Hayes Accountancy and they found me a job. I had no accounting experience but my new employers saw my potential and created a job for me (they thought the job I was applying for would not be mentally taxing enough for me). I was promoted after a year and moved on a year after that - to a job in management and a wonderful £5.5k payrise!!

That was just 18 months ago. I had my review today and it was glowing, am being recommended for a bonus for my hard work.

Life has a funny way of working out. For 6.5 years I earned a pretty low wage. Now I'm on a pretty decent one with only 3.5 years experience and I am 'manager'!!!

Good luck, go with an accounting agency and don't be too proud to start at the bottom - you won't be there long!!0
