I need to decide which of the above I should do to complete Technician, I study via distance learning and am taking PCR & PEV in June and DFS in December, I have already passed BTC, but had to go into hospital so did not take PTC, so, because of the new tax year I would have to purchase a new book anyway, so I have decided not to do PTC and choose one of the above, but which one? Has anybody done these and If so what did they think and which would they recommend, bearing in mind I want to complete in December. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance. Sarah.

    Cash management or audit?

    Hi Sarah.

We did Unit 15. It was quite interesting- Cash Flows, Investments, Govt. Securities, Granting Credit, Credit Control, Aged Debtor Analysis, Debt Factoring.

I suppose it depends on what you do in your job, and where you want to be. Are you interested in going into auditing, or do you prefer credit control? Which would your bosses prefer, which is most likely to get you promotion/ payrise?

Scott.

    Scotty,

Thanks for the reply, just a quick question, was there a lot of work involved and did you do a devolved assessment or was it by work based evidence? Thanks

    Cash management or audit?

We did a Skills Test. It wasn't too involved. We started the unit in December and sat the exam at the end of January.

Scott.

    Cash management or audit?

As you study via distance learning I assume you don't work for an accountancy practice and therefore wouldn't recommend audit. It's quite boring when you're actually doing it, so the theory is even worse!

I know you've decided against PTC, but I did both tax papers in Dec and found there is quite a bit of overlap. Also, once you've done one lot of tax, the other makes a lot more sense. Having said that, our college tutors kept recommending CCMC because apparently it's the easiest!

    Cash management or audit?

Doing both of these units this year although I would have much preferred at least one of the tax units. Out of the two I would recommend Cash & Credit Management. I found Audit really boring and whilst the procedures and controls may seem common sense there is so much theory behind it all I considered doing only part of the course just to avoid the unit (our centre only offered these as our optionals). Both of our tutors have said that C&CM is an insult to our intelligence at this level and it's even been suggested that this is 'a throw away unit' in that you can't help but pass.
So my recommendation is Unit 15 - due to sit this next month so can't really comment on the assessment but both units are assessed by simulation.

Can't comment on your outstanding tax unit as I haven't any experience at all of this but considering the overlap and our tutors' comments about C&CM you may feel that the tax unit may be of more value.

Cash management or audit?

I am currently doing the CMCC with BPP by Distance Learning, It is easy, and there is some overlap with other sections (DFS and Intermediate subjects). I dont think that you need any experience of CMCC to be able to study easily at home, I have just done the mock assessment and it wasn't difficult at all. Hope this helps & good luck with whatever you decide to do.
