I only have this exam to sit in June and I haven't sat it before. What's the general opinion on this unit's assessment?

A lot of our group were thrown by the spreadsheet question (Nov 2004) as you had to put the formula in, rather than just the value.

The other sticking point seemed to be revising the production budget.

Scott.

If you have already passed PEV (which you must have if this is your last one) you will have no problem with this at all. As Scotty says a lot of people were thrown by the spreadsheet question - our tutor assumed we were all computer literate enough to realise what this required and so didn't even cover it in class. I know a few people who entered the actual answers rather than the formula required and they still passed so don't get hung up on this. Another sticking point was a question relating to stepped costs, I think in the Dec paper it related to maintenance costs (in the past it has related to supervisor's costs). Remember to treat this as a stepped cost and round the value up rather than decide to convert to a variable cost. In terms of supervisors remember that half a supervisor doesn't tend to stand up very well and you should be okay! Sounds mad I know but in exam conditions it's easy to lose sight of the type of cost you are calculating when it is easier to calculate a variable.

For extra practice you could try the Osborne Workbooks. We started this unit in mid September and had builders in by the time of the exam so I started on my revision really early using the workbook and felt well prepared. The answers must be purchased separately and you should obtain authorisation from your tutor/centre (required on the order form). I also have a lot of papers for this subject - if there are any you would like let me know.

    dhewlett

I saw your reply to my posting on the revision forum expressing an interest in attending the PCR day at Croydon
That will be 16 April (Saturday after next)

I do have a few places available. But as you can guess, when the limit is 10 people, I can't be sure how long they will last.

Please email me if you want to come (rather than replying here as I might miss your posting)

sandy.hood@chichester.ac.uk
