Anyone thinking of doing AAT/ACA Fast-Track?

Hi

is anyone thinking of doing ACA after AAT? I qualified AAT last summer and since getting MAAT status in January, I have been treading the boards cautiously looking for a new job with a training contract. I have registered with the ICAEW as an independent student and claimed my exemptions. I was going to sit my first exam in June but the costs and time off work did not agree with me. I go on the ICAEW website quite often to look at registered training firms but where I live in Oxfordshire there is not much choice unless I am a graduate. I registered with an agency but so far they have sent me on 2 interviews, neither firm being a training office, wasting both my time and theirs. I do find this frustrating and now the agency sales rep lady as I call her is trying to talk me into doing ACCA when I have chosen ACA as the qualification I want to do. Is anyone else coming up against the same thing or am I the only person who wants to do ACA?

You need to find work with a firm of Chartered Accountants - they'll be more than happy for you to do ACA. As an AAT qualified, you've got far more experience than a graduate and many firms will prefer that. Check the Big 4 websites for vacancies. And find another recruitment agency!

I thought about it but like yourself found it hard to get an offer of a training contract as they were looking to take on graduates or at least people with experience in a practice environment. Apparetnly you can ring up ICAEW student support and they can help you.

I reckon i might do ACCA now instead.

Good luck with it though.

    Hi

You could approach a firm who arent currently approved and ask if they would consider it. May be a long shot but perhaps worth the chance?

The main crietria for aproval seems to be the requirement to have an ICAEW/ACA qualified accountant to oversee the training contract, but this can be either in practice or business/industry/commerce.

    Hi

thanx for all of your replies. I have applied to firms where they said they would look into training an ACA student but then decide not to as the costs and red tape are too much, etc. I actually work for a firm of chartered accountants now. I applied here originally looking for ACA but after 5 months when I needed some time off for my last AAT exam I was told that they do not provide help for students. I found that only the other office assists students and I have asked about transferring and this is not allowed, hence that is why I am looking for another job. I do feel like giving up sometimes! But I have come this far so I just had better keep trying!

Thanx again, best of luck to all of you.
