skills tests/simulations

The skills tests are as important as the external exams, in order to get the AAT qualification you must pass all skill tests and external exams.

Hope that helps

Dawn

    skills tests/simulations

    Hi Rob

Yes the Skills tests are important as you need the information to cover all the criteria in your portfolio. They are held under exam conditions you have 3 hours to complete, and 15 minutes reading time (although our college wasn't too strict on the time scale allowed).

If you find that you don't pass/understand everything on the paper then you can do some extra "remedial" type work, which is usually along the lines of Q&A's or perhaps some invoices to work out to show you understand discounts etc. Once these have been completed they are also placed in the portfolio to show your competance.
You get to keep the front and back covers of the simulation to place in the portfolio, and your tutor writes notes on this as to how you got on etc.

Now not sure if I am entirely correct here, but I think my Tutor said that if you can prove you have sufficient competance (from work) in all areas required then you didn't need to take the skills tests at all, but don't quote me on this as I was more than likely talking at the time!

All the best!!!!!

Tracy

I have just passed Unit 1 with work based evidence only; I didn't have to do a skills test!

be careful the simulations are not great and are much harder than they should be, you will find it harder to find where the pages go etc than the actual work and then on top of that you have to try and judge what kind of mood the examiner who wrote it was in ! so the simulations are hard but for the wrong reasons !

    My understanding

Simulations/Skills test are ways of providing the evidence needed for the PC's etc... They are a a type of exam, but they do not need to be completed under exam conditions, it should feel like an office - this is difficult at college, but you can at least feel at ease.

You don't have to do a simulation/skills test, you can provide work placed evidence providing that is meets all of the Pc's, Range Statements and K & U.

Most simulations are straight forward and evidence the unit, they can be lengthy and time consuming, but ideal if you are not able to provide work based evidence.

Hope this helps.

Jo

Yes, I do work in accounts, so I could put enough evidence together. However, it did take ages to sort it all out and reference it. I had a couple of gaps, one of which was discounts, so I just wrote out what one of our invoices would look like if we did offer a discount, and showed the calculations.

Hope this helps
Hilary
