Hi All

I had the email below from my tutor this week and thought some of you might find it useful.

For information, the PQ magazine has published some topics expected to appear in the PEV exam in June. These are:

Ø Stock will be included in variance questions
Ø Backwards variances
Ø How computer packages aid movement to ABC
Ø Problems implementing ABC
Ø ABC calculations
Ø Absorption costing v. marginal costing (note treatment of closing stocks)

This exam paper has not been written by the person who wrote them previously, so you will need to have a good understanding of variances and other topics in readiness!

PEV Exam Tips
I asked my tutor (who does happen to be quite rubbish!) What she thought about these tips from PQ magazine in light of the fact that hardly any of the book that we use (osborne) gives examples with Activity Based Costing and she said that she could not see how it could come up for exactly that reason.

I really hope that she is right on this one because I am usless with activity costing!!

HELP!0 -

PEV Exam Tips
We use Osbourne as well which is why I panicked a bit. Luckily I had the foresight to buy a decent book at the start of the course as I knew that Osbourne were rubbish from previous experience. BPP is the way forward folks! If anyone can make reading about accounting interesting, it's BPP. Osbourne books, aside from not being all that helpful, are actually the most boring books on the planet. The only thing they're good for is case studes and practice papers. However, my tutor quite obviously thinks that they're God's gift to accounting as she does very little other than read to us out of the book.

Apologies for the minor vent!0 -

That's another thing! I've no idea what backward variances are. I assume you have to reverse the calculation? Christ, I'm bad enough at doing them forwards! Gonna fail this one.0
