What are these range statements all about? I am doing this on a distance learning course and so only see my tutor for the skills test, he's also very slow replying to e-mails. I've asked him what is needed for range statements but he was a bit vague and left me none the wiser.
Any help would be gratefully received
Thanks

    Hi

I am doin AAT as distance learning and glad to hear I am not the only one that has problems with tutors vague and not very often responses.

Your range is basically your competance. When you register with AAT you should receive the pack on portfolio building and student record cards. Each unit you complete you need to show and support evidence either from your work place or tutor assignments.

If you haven go the pack then you can download the information on this website.

The student record card states what you need to show in your work and understanding to acheive the standard AAT are looking for. Then all you have to do is record the paper numbers you want the assessor to look at to prove your competance.

Any work that is set outside of the college will have to be witnessed statemented by your employer.

What I have done is if you look on your booklet covers from your Skills tests, it will tell you what is covered for Performance Criteria, Range and Knowledge & Understanding. I then go to my Student Record and put a little cross by the one not covered and look for the evidence in my practice assignments. Eg, Unit 3 Preparing ledgers & Trial balance, all the K&U will be covered by the PLB exam so you can use that. I found for the Working with Computers skills test, everything was covered as it is stated on the booklet. A lot of the stuff I found it doesn't cover on the tests is the computerised aspects so you can cross reference it with the Working with Computers
Hopefully I've made some sense here, I am on distant learning and found my tutor a bit distant, (blimey, did you get the irony there...)

Cheers

I am home study and find my tutor great!! So please dont think that home study is always bad...

Anyway, If you have done the Sims than when you get the sims back you should have the sheet that tells you which Ranges etc this covers!!! Then ask your tutor for some additional questions to cover the ranges that are missed by the sims or if you arent getting much joy from your tutor get work based evidence if you can - or maybe complete the tasks in your workbooks and send them in for marking to your tutor - this should cover everything in the unit.

Amanda

I am on BPP's Home study and I was told they don't have personalized tutors anymore. I do have some sims in my assessment kit, but I can check the answers myself as they are included. Do I still need to send them in or can I just complete and include it in my portfolio. Any other home-study's out there?

You have to Pay to have a Real Sim from the AAT to include in your portfolio.

You can not include the practice sims in your portfolio.

You only have to do sims if you can not produce work based evidence.

Is this any clearer?

Amanda

I have some work experience for Unit one such as posting customer payments. But I have nothing to do with sales invoices. I also can use the debtor statements I do send out every month. But it looks like that is about it for that unit. I have to take a mock skills test tomorrow and then the real one. It just seems a bit confusing the way BPP put it in my home pack.
