Can anyone let me know if we might be asked about National Insurance in the BTC exam? It's in the BPP book for June & December 2005 exams, but our teacher hasn't mentioned it all all. I've just run through the chapter but I don't want to waste time if we don't need it.

I was told when I started at my college that a previous year were pi$*ed off with him for missing bits of the course out, so I want to make sure.

Thanks
Glenn

National Insurance?
NI for individuals has been in most of the past papers I've looked at in some shape or form.

Probably a good probablilty of something NI related.

Good luck!0 -
National Insurance?
Hi,

The NI rates are always on the front page of the paper along with the indexation rates etc that we need. It's easy points as we are pretty much given the answers!

Always worth mentioning is the small earning exemption limit of £4215 - another mark!

All the best for next week,
Teekay.0 -
National Insurance?
Hi TeeKay
Thanks. I realise from looking at the BPP book & past papers that they give us the rates etc. but my point is that our group haven't even heard the words "national insurance" from our teacher - he certainly hasn't taught it. I don't do it at work so there's no way I would have known what Class 1a, Class 2 & Class 4 contributions were, nevermind how to work it out.
I've also noticed that he hasn't mentioned short-life assets that go into the pool after 4 years. I don't know if that will crop up either & I don't know how many other (dozens?) of things he hasn't told us! It doesn't help to find this sort of thing out a week before the exams.

Thanks again & good luck

Glenn0 -
National Insurance?
Hi Glenn,

I know how you feel, our tutor guaranteed us last year that we wouldn't get an extended trial balance in the exam - we got 2! Changed colleges this year to get away from her and she followed us! Mention it to the EV if you are not happy with anything. My only advice would be that if it's covered in the book, it could come up in the exam. To put your mind at rest, it's really not very complicated (it's the only thing I understand at the minute!)

Anyway, best of luck0
