Hi
I have been struggling all year as i didnt understand debit and credit. Fair enough payroll is my thing, i have only ever written up a petty cash book and typed accounts before, didnt know any the other stuff. I now feel like i gettin to grips with accounts but i keep making silly debit/credit mistakes, therefore my trial balance never balances! I am working so very hard for the exam on tuesday and have just been marked uncompetent on simulation 3. My tutor today has suggested i dont take intermediate next year but do book keepin instead!, Honest i am not thick, i just take a bit of time to catch on sometimes but have had very little help all year.
I was thinking, if i spend all summer learning the ins and outs of book keeping, do i have a chance with intermediate, i am also hoping to arrange extra tuition. What do u think folks? Opinions would b appreciated.
Thanks
Heather

    Do I Have A Chance

I would say that there is always hope. I work in a Management Accounts environment and I have struggled big time with debit/credits double entry book keeping and the like and guess what.... I have finished the year and passed it all, even my exam. If you want to do it then you will, simple as that. Do YOU want to do book-keeping or do you want to do Intermediate, your choice, anyone can learn anything if they put their minds to it. You mentioned the "silly mistakes" then you must understand where you are going wrong. I would dearly love to study Forensic Science, but here I am studying Accounts, that's because my employer has invested in me, wouldn't have been my choice to be honest but I am doing it and pleased I am.
Just believe in yourself and ask why are you doing it and what are you getting out of it at the end.
Mandy

    Of course you do!!!

Everyone has the chance if you put your mind to it - as mandy above says - its what YOU want at the end of the day.

I remember the weeks coming up to my PLB exam - wondering if I would ever get it - worrying about the exam. I passed

I am now worried about FRA exam - I am too making the silly mistakes - the thing is in the exam you remember the mistake you made before and then dont do them again!!!

Keep practicing until Tuesday - and when you make a mistake - work out why - dont just think Oh I got that wrong!! Sit and work it out again - check answers - make sure you understand why you got it wrong - then the day of the exam you will sit there and a quesition will come up and you will remember the mistake you made and you wont do it again!!

Good luck and we are always here for the advice you need.
Chat night tonight at 7pm in MSN Groups

Amanda

Oh and 1 last thing i forgot to mention......

READ the paper first - I didnt do but after the exam I read something that stuck in my mind..

If you read the WHOLE of the paper first not only do you know what is expected of you but also you might find that section 1 asks you to do a TB whereas Section 2 already as a TB drawn up. So when you are doing Section 1 and you just cant remember if its a debit and credit - look at the other TB in section 2 - it just might give you the hint you need.

Remember PEARLS and DAD (discounts allowed is Debit) and you wont do far wrong.

I took my simulation for UNit 3 this week and I am 99.9% certain I will fail - although it all rests with my tutors marking I guess. Like the advice I was given when I was having a tearful moment on these boards for the next two days, Don't give up - just study some more and have another go when you feel you are ready to take again. It is certainly good advice that I have taken and I feel a lot less worked up.

eltel21 - If you have nothing constructive to say - DONT SAY ANYTHING AT ALL.

heathernaughty - You can do it - even if your TB doesnt balance in the exam but you remember to do a suspense account, you could still pass. You can only be marked down once, not loads of times for the same mistake.

Come into chat tonight if you need help, sign up to foundation study group and get help from fellow studiers, come along to chat tonight and we will try to help if we can.

Good Luck - If you believe in yourself, you have already passed.

Let's all face it...the simulation is a load of bull!!! It's NOTHING like the exam and should never be put on us in the first place. The time we've wasted trying to work it all out, has gone against our TUITION time, along with all the other stupid stuff like Personal Effectiveness, reading and writing tests!!!
I reckon the class i'm in must have lost at LEAST 4 weeks lessons in total doing things that are irrelevant to the exam itself. I can say that not one person in my class is impressed with AAT over this, along with also finding mistakes made by them in EXAM papers of all things!!!
I hope intermediate has more to offer as i do love the course work, but have VERY little time for time-wasting.
