I have just got back from college and we were told that backwards varriances may be tested in the costing papers but they werent sure if this was PEV or PCR as the examiner hadnt confirmed. Please could someone let me know as I am really worried and I dont want to waste time learning something that isnt going to be turning up ?

I know it has been discussed before but I didnt read the threads. Thanks.

No offence Daniel but you could go back and read all the other threads! The fact is that no-one except the examiner knows what will be tested, and he or she are unlikely to tell anyone. Variances are in the syllabus and "backwards" ones are just working exactly the same variances backwards. Providing you know and understand your variances (ie rather than just rote learning formulae) you shouldn't have a problem. A tutor on this forum also suggested that it was quite possible to pass the paper even if this comes up and you can't do it, providing you do well enough on other things. So seriously I really wouldn't waste time worrying about it, revise variances well and you'll be fine.

I feel this is a valid question. Going back to previous threads it was not clear whether backwards variances would be in PCR or not. The example we went through at college related to PEV variances which would probably not be in PCR so I feel I need a clear answer. Varriances are in PCR but only Actual to flexed budget. I think its fair to know if this is a new topic not covered in any of the books if the threads discussed before relate to PEV or PCR

My tutor only mentioned that it would be in PEV, not PCR. Are you only doing PCR this time round then? If not then you'd have to learn them anyway as PEV is on Monday *shakes in boots*

And danteandsam, I was under the impression that this forum was set up for students to help each other. It's not entirely helpful to tell someone to (not in so many words) get lost and read the past threads. I'm sure if you came on and asked for help, you'd be met with useful comments.

Sorry Daniel if you felt that was offensive, I wasn't being mean just suggesting that there were loads of threads and you might find them helpful.
