When the exam question asks you to "prepare notes" to explain the treatment according to FRS's etc, is there a certain layout - do you need to use headings etc. I know you get points for the presentation for reports memo's etc, but I don't really know what the presentation of "notes" constitutes!

Any guidance would be appreciated!

    DFS written questions

I think bullet points would do it, with a starting sentence saying 'this will be in the notes to accounts..' At our level of studies it is not necessary to know how to write notes correctly (the wording, etc..) Just an understanding of why a note will be made. For example, SSAP 17 Post Balance Sheet Events: when a massive fire wipes out a load of stock and/or damages buildings AFTER the balance sheet date, then you wouldn't go back and amend the financial statement's figures. You WOULD make a note to give give the readers of the accounts a true and fair view. (BTW, fires are a non-adjustable event).
