I have just completed my AAT (with fingers crossed for the DFS results) and my employer has told me that they are not willing to sposor my CIMA training, looking around at various trainee acoountant posistions they require a 2.1 or 2.2 Finance degree. Does this mean that there is no point applying? what is the difference between an AAT qualification and a finance degree?

If anyone knows of any establishments that employ AAT qualified finance staff and sponsor their Accounting training I would be interested to know.

Advice on Trainee accountant posistions.
You could always apply for the job anyway, making it obvious that you have AAT and therefore that magic stuff - experience!

I think AAT is about the level of the second year of a degree. But I could be very wrong!

The other thing you could do is ask your employer if they would be prepared to pay for CIMA if you did it in your own time - home study or evenings or whatever.
