Hi

You can be self employed with AAT or ACCA or CIMA, though the sort/level of work you dowill be an influence on what work you could potentially undertake.

AAT, ACCA and CIMA wont allow you to refer to your status as a member/sign off documents stating your qualification etc, unless you are registered as self employed with them/have their practising certificate. In addition ACCA wont allow you to do anywork behond general accounts, payroll, VAT etc unless you hold the ACCA practising certificate (which requires training with an approved employer).

If you are planning on using self-employed work experience as part of the membership requirement, check out what verification it will need.

Neil

    Hi Dikisa,

Just a quick addition to what Neil has already said - If you are a registered student with ACCA, they told me that "you shouldn't be doing anybody's books" despite the fact that I was a fully qualified Member in Practice with the AAT. I asked them the question as I had noticed in their magazine, in the disciplinary section, that they had struck off, disciplined and also put notices in local papers of people who were practising without a certificate.

Needless to say I quickly cancelled my student membership with them.

Good Luck, Shushana

    Hi

Going on from what shushana said about her status, the ACCA Rule Book says that students and members not holding a practicing certificate can undertake basic book-keepin to TB, VAT and payroll etc but musn't refer to their ACCA status.

Neil
