I am attempting the Unit 10 simulation ; Castonbridge Hotels.

I do not work in the accounting environment and i am only vaguely aware of Sage accounting.

Is there anywhere on the internet that would list the capabilities of accounting software that would be capable of dealing with a chain of hotels (that would include bookings, purchases, salaries, completion of all accounts etc etc).

The scenario mentions the operation of the "Activity Based Management System (ABM)". Does this system exist or was it made up for this task?

If you are unfamiliar with computerised accounting packages try to choose an area to focus on where indepth software knowledge is not required. For example, the payroll system has many pitfalls in the control and security systems. This area is already computerised and therefore will not require extensive analysis in terms of the benefits of changing to a computerised system. Restricted access and the use of passwords are obvious points to mention together with ensuring that the payroll software integrates smoothly with all other accounting software to enable accurate reporting.

I completed the payroll analysis and although I am familiar with Sage did not go into a lot of detail about the benefits of the system as there was so much other material to work with in this area.

If you have completed the Audit unit have another look through your notes on control procedures to refresh your memory and you will find the project starting to flow. Try not to get too hung up on not knowing enough about software to include it in your report. If you particularly wanted to complete the analysis of the management information system then you would need to start some serious research but there are other areas you can work on which I'm sure you will already have sufficient knowledge. Remember only one area is required, not the whole system.

0
