hi all
I have recently completed my foundation level aat and feel quite confident about the result of it
I want to do Intermediate but I want to change job , the job I am doing at the moment is terrible to say the least !! So i have been applying for various jobs and registerd at many an agency and the comment I keep getting back , is no!! because of my acedemic qualifications eg got a (c) in maths (d) english (b) politics (c ) re and the rest of my marks where (d) , i didnt take any a levels went straight into work in an office and now 10 years later have decided that accounts is a the career for me , but I dont seem to be getting anywhere !!
can you actually get into accounts even though you havent got a CV full of a levels etc ???
At the moment I work in a finance office and aswell as my aat have done various other accounts courses but it all goes back to the same problem the acedemic qualifications - and the fact that there doesnt seam to be any jobs in hull - i am just a bit fed up with it all at the moment

lemon fed up muffin

Could you not redo your CV and skim over the academic side and concentrate more on the practical experience - ie under education put X number of O'levels (sorry, showing my age here!) and not state what they were and what grade, and then put in more about AAT and what you have actually studied and the depth of your work experience - it might work?!

Cheer up - there are so many posts on here from other people trying to get a new job and having real probs, and then every now and then one pops up with a new post saying that they have found something.

So i guess what i am trying to say is try not to get toooooo depressed about it, and keep on perservering with it.

Chin up and try to smile!
Claudia
0 -

I think Claudia is right. You seem to have a lot of achievemnts, so maybe just putting them on your CV may be a good start. If you tried it then you would probably be suprised of how much you know! When i was trying to get into Accounts, everyone was asking for experience, which is hard when nobody will actually take you on to give you the experience you need!

It probably feels like you're never going to get a good job, but you are definetly on the right track and i am sure that the job you want will turn up! You seem like you have a lot of office experience which counts for something.

Keep your chin up though! I know how you feel because looking for jobs must be the most stressful thing in the world. Good luck with whatever you do though - and keep at it!0 -

It's difficult at foundation to find accountancy work, but keep trying, I know I was working at marks and spencer for months before my first accounts job and I got it when I had one month to go on my intermediate stage, I know lots of people that can't get their foot in the door (some doing ACCA already), and you have already your first accounts role, just keep pestering those recruitment agencies and scheme through the GCSE by saying passed math and all the others and do not right the grades on application form.0
