Hi Guys

I have taken a different route into Accounting than most of you. Instead of leaving school / college and going to work for an accountancy firm, I went to university and did a degree. I then graduated and after having some time off I decided to do AAT instead of charterd. I did distant learning for 4 months and then sat the Intermediate exams. My tutor for next year says that I am exempt from the skills tests :-)

What Id like to know is how much should I be earning. I have no experience other than the revision/practice for the exams and a very basic knowledge of Sage. I should be able to learn on the job fairly quickly as I am numerate and good with computers however I guess I would have to start at the bottom. I am looking to start working now, either in practice or industry, so I have a job to do along side my NVQ 4. I live in a rural area surounded by small towns.

With the above in mind what should I be asking for???????????????????

Thanks in advance!

First Accountancy Job!!
hi there

i was in a similar situation to you. i did a degree, then fell into admin type jobs, then decided to retrain in accountancy. i was lucky and got a job as an aat trainee in a practise really quickly. my wages are really terrible at the mo (£13k) but they pay for all my study costs including books etc which is great. hopefully am going on to do aca (firm wanted me to do aat first as i've had a few years out from studying) and money goes up after each set of exams...

good luck with the job hunting!0
