i am awaiting my level 3 results next week. If i am successful then i think that it is time to start making use of my qualifications but i need to also find employment that will help my further education (possibly ACCA).

I currently work for Jobcentre Plus who do not help in any way towards my course. All of the accountancy posts are the other end of the country so my course is deemed as not relevant to my work.

My understanding is that the AAT qualification is only relevant if i also have 2 years accounting works experience.

Is there a list of the employers/ jobs that are deemed as relevant to the 2 years work experience. Should i seek work with accounting firms or elsewhere?

Are there other civil service jobs in south west England which i could transfer to that would have relevant accounting jobs?

The 2 years work experience can be gained in any business, doesn't have to be an accountancy firm, providing you work in accounts/finance. When you say the qualification is only relevant with this experience, that's not quite true. You do need 2 years experience to apply for membership, but if you have passed the qualification you have passed it, no-one can take that away from you. Not everyone goes on to apply for MAAT status anyway. All it means is that you can say you are AAT qualifed but not that you are an AAT member or put the letters after your name.

Re changing your job, there is no list of employers as such. I don't know about the civil service as such (presumably there may be a website?) but I started off for my local council, working for social services. You should try the website of your local district/town/county council for jobs if you want to stay in the public sector.

I think you could be right. Local authority/county council would have a wider choice of relevant jobs. any other skills i have picked up on the way would suit this as well. Thanks for the advice.
