I've just passed intermediate and am torn on what to do..... I want to do technician but am thinking of taking a break for 6 months or doing technician over 18months, the reason for this is because I am moving house in october, what would anyone suggest?? Is the technician much much more demanding than intermediate?? Would I be able to cope as long as I managed my time?

Any ideas would be grateful

Thanks
Laura

I spread tech level over 2 yrs as my college didn't offer the 18 month option. I had both int centrals to take for the first time when I started tech aswell so would have been a bit stretched to cram into 12 months (AAT mucked up my application for exams in Intermediate exams so didn't get entered).

I wanted to spread it over a longer period as I didn't want to cram and fail units - I'd rather take my time and pass first time (which I did!)

I found Tech more demanding - especially project and DFS.

I would speak to your college and see what they offer.

Helen0 -

Hi Laura

I passed intermediate last year and chose to move onto technician. My college explained that the AAT recommend you do Technician level over 2 years, as they consider it to be much more demanding than Intermediate. However, I wanted to get through Technician as quickly as possible and therefore opted to do it in 1 year. Due to family bereavement I missed about an entire month of college, and I didn't get on with my PCR tutor so only actually attended 2 PCR lessons during the whole year. Instead I taught myself, although I didn't do an awful lot of that either (which I regretted when it came to exam revision).
I received my results today, I passed all exams, which goes to show that it can be done in a year if you put your mind to it. I'd definitely recommend the 18months option though, as it is quite an intense course. Intermediate seemed relatively basic compared to Technician, so give yourself the extra time and take it slowly - it's important to make sure that you absorb EVERYTHING!

Good luck for Technician level.

All the best

JW0 -

I have just completed the first year of Technician and it has been a challenge compared to intermediate. My college set me a timetable of 18 months, but by Xmas I knew I couldn't do it, so I am now due to finish next June. Take your time there is a lot to take in.

Best of luck
Eva0 -

Hi, I am doing my technician over 18 months, took PTC in Dec and passed, just done PCR passed DFS Passed and PEV failed yuk, going back in September to do Project and Cash Management skills test and now retake for PEV. Much easier over 18 months, couldn't have done it in 1 year. It depends what other commitments you have. With full time job and being a lone parent of 2 still at home its hard but hope worthwhile. Best of luck with whatever you decide.
Sue0
