I am still in shock that I have passed Technician level. I am not sure what to do next - apart from change jobs! I noticed on one of the messages that someone was talking about setting up as self employed to do other peoples tax returns. I have had several friend ask me to do their returns, so far I have said that I am not qualified. I am not sure if I have the confidence to do this, anyway. Do you have to register with anyone? and does the AAT qualification mean you are qualified to do this?

I don't work for a practice, so not sure about the rules and regulations.

I don't want to go on to CIMA or ACCA, as I am too old!

Hi Harry

I do my husbands tax returns as he is self employed. I was also doing them about ten years ago before I even went into AAT or any form of financial education.

Anyone who has to fill out a tax return can do it themselves or pay someone i.e accountant to do it. I so the way I see it you dont have to be qualified to complete them. I guess it just helps and makes it easier as you have covered tax in your course.

Those who dont do it themselves either dont feel confident doing it as it looks too compilcated, or purely find it easier to give it to someone else because they cant be bothered.

This is my take on it anyhow, I may be right or I may have got it completely wrong, but the police havn't taken me away yet...............0
