Does anyone know what the equivalent qualification of AAT is? Is it a degree? or less than that?

    AAT Qualification

Technician Level is NVQ Level 4, which I have heard said is the equivalent of the first year of a degree course.

According to The AAT magazine a few months ago Technician level is the same level as the second year of an honours degree course.

Which makes sense if you think about the exemptions for ACCA/Cima as their intermediate levels are dgree equivalent and final are Master level.

    Hi

I read the article that said the NVQ 4 was the same level as the second year of a degree, but having done 2nd year degree study I can only assume that either the course I was on was harder than average or that degrees have got a bit easier.

I think its faier to say that technician/level 4 is more on par with first year degree/HNC.

Neil

Disagree. I took a Bsc honours degree, which in the third year, involved having to produce a dozen 'lab' reports, a year-long project which had to be properly published and bound and sit ten 'final' papers within a fortnight. Given it was full-time course, it is no surprise it was far more arduous (and completely burnt me out!).

AAT is obviously lesser than this, but when you bear in mind it is a *vocational* course, in which you have to produce workplace evidence, which in itself entails all kinds of skills (e.g., the ability to get on with people, be computer literate and hold down a job, as well as get it in the first place) - and I personally found the exams real headbangers - it really is of a genuinely high level and I would say, definitely beyond 'first year degree' level, which more often than not, is a pretty basic foundation year for most undergraduate students.

Just my tuppence worth.
The Open University awards 90 level 2 credits for Technician level, i.e. equal to 3/4 of the second year of a degree.

Sara
