Hi,

I am re sitting in Dec but dont plan on going back to college - I have been told by my college that I must enrol next week and they will provide a meeting with a tutor before each exam - I have been told I must do this or I will be treated as an outside candidate.

My problem is that I dont want to pay un necessary fees to the college for tutor meetings etc if I can arrange my re sits myself.

Pls advise. Many thanks.

My college were great I rang them up and spoke to my old tutor who was helpful.
They allowed me to just go on the exam day as an external student and sit the exam at no cost.
Sarah

Thats really surprising about your college!

I know that at mine if you fail you can re-enter the exam with them even if you are not registered as a student based on the fact that you were there when you did it first time round. If you enrol you would have to pay for the year or the subject again?! Thats a bit unfair. You shouldn't be classed as external if you studied for the course there even if it's just a resit without any lessons. You would only be external if you did home study first for the exam you failed.

I don't know who you spoke to but maybe you should try asking again? If you spoke to your tutor then you might not get far but if you only spoke to, say, admin or enrollments go to your tutor. I can't see them charging you for the whole year or subject if they can't provide you with a full term of lessons.

I know that I wouldn't be able to enter for an exam as an external student at my college as they are concerned more about their statistics than much else and they wouldn't know what an external student has done in the way of studying. And that straight from the tutors mouth before anyone says anything!

I agree with the other two replies. I have failed my DFS and as the techincians will be taking the exam in june, it's not worth me going back to college to take it dec. My college are letting me just go in dec to sit the paper which my employers are paying for. You could see if there is anyone else to speak to.

    Hi

I think the main point is, does your college accept external students, if so then I dont see it being a problem. you just put down that centres name on your enrolment form, no costs invovled. There is a list on the exam entry form for every college that does. I still have mine from last time if you tell me the college name, I could check for you.

If your college dont, then just go to the college nearest to you, even if it is a trek to get there, its got to be cheaper than paying for a full year.

Regards

    Hi

I am a homestudy student and am treated as an external candidate. In June I had to travel from Bristol to Cardiff in time to get to the exam centre for 9.15 - extremely stressful and unnecessary. Luckily this year there is a college in Bristol that is taking external candidates - something to consider.

Best of luck
