Hi

Generally it wont effect you training provider, but you will have to abide by the ACCA/ACA practicing regulations which may be more stringent than the AAT. The ACCA have limits on what students and members can do without the ACCA practising certificate.

Neil0 -

But can I still practice under AAT while studying ACCA or ACA0 -

Hi

Yes you can, though you need to be aware of the individual regulations of ACCA and ACA.

Im not too familiar with the regs of ACA/ICAEW but ACCA will not allow you to provide services behond general book-keeping and accounts, VAT, payroll or management accounts, unless you are an ACCA member holding the ACCA practice certificate. You wont be able to sign accounts on behalf of your clients or other documents that ' a third person may place reliance on'. I.e. you wouldnt be able to sign an income certificate for a client to present to the bank, regardless of if you referred to ACCA membership or not.

Neil0 -

Neil

Do you think I am okay still, signing income statements as MAAT on behalf of my company but being a student member and studying ACCA (which is not referred to at all)? Studying ACCA is beginning to look like it's the wrong move for me, too restricted by needing that practicing certificate!!

Annette0 -

Hi

Annette, in your position you are fine. The ACCA rules apply to those offering services directly to the public as self employed, i.e. since they would be 'seen' as a part of the ACCA. In your instance, your employers/practice would bear the consequencies of any wrong doing (as if ) on your part, as it is your employers who are officially offering the services.

The rules probaly apply since the ACCA doesn't want members or students offering services unless theya are appropriately 'supervised' either by an employer or by the ACCA practising regulations.

Neil0 -

Thanks for that Neil, that was what I thought but nice to have it confirmed. That will make a difference now but I guess I will have to find another job for 2 years just to get my practicing certificate!!

Annette0
