Thanks a lot everyone for your suggestions.

My salary increase has been put up to 14k and will be reviewed again in April when i have completed AAT.

Yet again though the subject was brought up about my age. it is really starting to annoy me. i have three years experience and have passed each exam first time. i don't see why i should be paid less just due to my age. if i have the same qualifications and same experience does it matter???

I know i should be grateful for what they have given me but i don't see why i should take on responsibilities that i am apparently to young to do!

Kay

Personally I agree, I have never understood why people should be paid less simply because of their age. I feel it should be the rate the job is worth and that your skills/experience/qualifications merit. It sounds like you'e doing really well though, so just ignore them, keep going, and like the rest of us you will age one day at a time and they will have to stop saying it to you!0 -

Well done on your pay rise!

They probably use your age as an excuse.

Not many other teenagers would be close to finishing technician and on 14k a year! Keep up the good work

0 -

Well done, I have to go up before the boss for may pay review in the next week or so and I'm in the same position as you were. Except for the fact I'm not getting the experience I want. i.e my boss is either very controlling or doesnt trust me!!

I'm 18 and have just started Technician level! My current salary is £11,750. I guess this is ok but i cant help but think if someone older had the same qualification they would be on a bit more money.

Also, I have to tell my boss that there not giving me enough finance work to do. They seem to 'off load' alot of administration work onto me which wasn't what they advertised for!!! I think personally this hinders me progressing as an accounting technician as I have the qualification but no one will let me put my knowledge to practice!0 -

I understand where you are comming from........
I had just two exams to complete my AAT and my salary was 10k (i was 20 years old at the time) and my employer wasnt interested in putting it up.

My advise.... if you can take on more responsibility then do as then you can command an increase as you are doing 'x' amount more at work.
The more knowledge you have the more you are worth!

Keep at it kid

Steph

0 -

Well done with the payrise!

I am in a similar situation, the job I am in was previously done by a CIMA Intermediate student who was on just over £20k, she was 23!

I go to the same meetings, have the same responsibilites and do the same work yet am on £15k, I am studying technician and I understand this will decrease it due to qualification but I have 2yrs experience and I feel the only reason for the difference is due to age!

I'm on the same wavelength as Kay, I mean why should I get these responsibilities if I dont get paid for them! Does it mean I can do my job a little bit worse than the last person did and blame it on my age and say well technically this is £15k's worth and what she did was £20k's worth...if you expect the same quality then pay for it!

How much have I been going on, I'm starting to bore myself!0
