HELP - JUST STARTED FOUNDATION
Who are you studying with? There is a student record (under publications) on this website along with past papers and answers (under assessments).

You study provider should have issued you with books - just work through them doing practice activities.

Don't forget your portfolio and H&S, WWC and Achieving personal effectiveness units.

If you need help with anything just post a message and someone will respond.

Helen0 -

HELP - JUST STARTED FOUNDATION
Hiya,

I've also just started my foundation level with FTC. I had very similar questions to yours and emailed my tutor as set out below. I was considering postponing my exam until Dec 06 but am satisfied that I can do it my June 06 now. Hope this helps.

Questions:

I am starting my foundation course today with, as per my personalised work programme, Info for Management Control.

I have set up and prepared my portfolio for future use and would be grateful if you could answer a few beginners question, as it's been a while since I did any learning, namely:

1. I presume that I complete pages 37-39 of my student record as I work through the study text/workbook. Can you confirm that this is correct?
2. Where evidence other than/as well as 'college simulation' is required, e.g. producing reports emails etc, I presume that I need witness testimony for this. Can you confirm that this is correct?
3. As well as the front sheet provided, do I need to submit page 41 (evidence summary report) of my student record when I send the answer booklet for assessment?

Answers:

Firstly, you do not complete your student record sheets until you do your skills tests. To complete the skills test you can chose a simulation or work based evidence. Work based evidence can be screen prints and photocopies and for small gaps you can write a personal statement. All work based evidence must be supported with a Managers witness testimony on company letter headed paper.

You submit your unit evidence summary sheet along with your student records ONLY when you sit a simulation or produce work based evidence.

Your assessment plan is fine. We can update any changes later on.

You should be allowing at least 1 month to six weeks to study a unit. Your work programme does give you plenty of time at the moment to complete units 1, 2,3 & 4 before the June 2006 exam sitting. If you need to submit your practice paper for unit 4 slightly later then do not worry. The dates are only a guideline.

0 -
HELP - JUST STARTED FOUNDATION
I started Home study last year and was in the same place, not sure!

The way I do it now is..

1) Read the Chapter and then do the Activities and Workbook Activities (I use Osborne).
2) Do not carry on until I understand the Chapter.
3) Once all Chapters are read I then tackle the Practice Simulation in the Workbook (Simulations and Skills Tests are the same thing, different colleges call them different)
4) Once happy, do the Pratice one that has to be returned to college for marking.
5) Hope to get 100% and then they say you are ready for your real one, which they send to my supervisor for doing.
6) I then Photocopy the Simulation Ranges etc covered and then Transfer this information onto my Student Record.
7) Then look at the blank spaces on the Student Record and either do extra questions from college, work based evidence or Witness / personal statements to ensure EVERYTHING is covered on the Student Record.
8) Send it all in for marking.
9) If its an Exam subject, then start the practice Exams

Dont forget there is Practice Sims and Exams on
http://groups.msn.com/aatfoundation

If you are not doing Simulations and going to provide work based evidence for all the unit then
Still do the practice Sims as it helps you understand what your learning.
and replace 6) The real sim with the Workbased evidence and cross ref to your portfolio as needed.

Amanda0 -
HELP - JUST STARTED FOUNDATION
Hi Sarah

I started foundation with FTC in February and passed by exam in June. I know how you feel, at the beginning I was completely dumb struck as to 'where do I start with the portfolio'. Best advice don't leave it to the end, I know it feels easier to but its a pain rushing it.
To start I read a chapter a day of unit 1(only because it tied in with my timetable, so adjust your to suit your timetable), did all the questions etc then did the practise stimulation. Portfolio, if your in accounts work collect piece of work as you go along e.g you read about sales invoices, make a note to get a copy of a sales invoice and so on, you soon end up with loads of evidence. Once you've got loads of evidence see how it relates to the student record form (one piece of evidence may cover 2 or 3 points, so no need to fill your portfolio with duplicates). Once you start, trust me you get into the whole swing of it and it all comes naturally. REMEMBER: when creating your portfolio to label diagrams etc and note what part of the unit the evidence relates to, you may be able to find your way around your portfolio but a stranger won't so just think of it as a book, index/contents = student record from there whoever is looking at your portfolio should be able to find exactly what they need.
Need any help just ask as I've done it and passed them.

xx0
