Does anyone else think these units are a waste of time?! Our lecturer has not given us any guidance yet as to what we need to do for these units and just has us go onto the internet and complete Health and safety quizzes!

Also, can anyone tell me what goes in our portfolio for the computery unit? Sage, Excel etc 'cos again we have not been told.

Yep, total waste of time. They're only really there to satisfy the requirements of an NVQ, the new AAT diploma ditches them.

As for Unit 21, most of the evidence should be provided by the skills test. You'll have to know some general stuff about using a computer computer, basic Excel, some Word and a fair bit of Sage.

Chris0 -

I've done loads on Sage, doing my skills test next week so at least that's one over with! I'm hopefully OK on spreadsheets, did a fair bit of statement making before I realised you could send data from Sage straight to an Excel spreadsheet! Ha, idiot! And I'm a secretary so should be OK with Word!

I know it's the requirements of NVQs nowadays. I myself have always favoured straight exams, never been one for coursework.

And, one more thing, why the Grinch?0 -

I'd done a Sage course before and I know Excel pretty well inside out so Unit 21 was a breeze. I have to admit I put the two written units off til the last minute and rattled through them in about two weeks - not recommended but doable. The health and safety one was particularly tricky for me as I'm self employed and work from home, I never have much dealings with H&S issues. You can grab a copy of what I did from my website here.

I just picked The Grinch from the avatars gallery here, seemed appropriate for a grumpy old git like me

Chris0 -

Yes, H&S is a complete waste of time. I started AAT directly on Technician level and still ahve to do the bloody thing. Its boring, irrelevant and a complete waste of time.

Time that I could be devoting to learning variances which I need to know for my job anyway. Funnily enough, my boss asks me accounts related questions as opposed to H&S ones..........0 -

Can you tell me which websites you did the H&S quizzes on please? Trying to catch up on my H&S evidence!

Cheers!0 -

The website was digital brain something or other. However, I don't recommend it as I found it a waste of time. I only want information that is going into my portfolio, not just some task to keep 'the kids' quiet in lesson. I personally am not gaining from doing these units so am only going to do the minimum to complete them.

I sound like a reet nark! Ha ha!0
