Health and Safety - Simulation or Work Evidence?
Hey,

I have been studying the AAT foundation course for about six weeks now, and its time for me to start cracking on with the Health and Safety unit. When the college I study out was explaining how to do this unit they informed us that we should get work based evidence, but then gave us two simulations to do that cover the performance criteria. I have been trailing through loads of AAT information on the web and in the text book the college gave us, but cannot find a straight answer. Can the portfolio stuff for this unit be all simulation? If so I see little incentive for people to get work based evidence. Does it have to be all simulation, all work based evidence, both, or a mixture of the two??

Cheers.

Health and Safety - Simulation or Work Evidence?

I expect Fresco means the college provided their own simulation which would cover the criteria.

I am also trying to catch up on units 22 and 23 (was exempt from 21) and am struggling with getting evidence from my workplace.

Any suggestions anyone?

Health and Safety - Simulation or Work Evidence?

Being self-employed and working from home, the H&S unit was really quite tricky for me, I really don't have much to do with health and safety issues. Units 22 and 22 both presuppose that you're working in a traditional office environment, if you don't they can be quite hard.

My solution for the H&S was to use quite a lot of personal statements and to find as much relevant info as I could from the HSE website. I also managed to get hold of some H&S documents from the place I used to work.

APE was a bit easier, I used a screen shot of my work schedule, a testamonial from a friendly ex-customer (didn't really want my current clients knowing I'm looking to change careers) and email exchanges with clients (edited to maintain confidentiality). What I really wanted to write was 'I've been running my own company for 5 years of course I'm flipping well personally effective!' (although 'flipping' would not have been the word I'd actually have chosen).

I think if you are having problems getting the evidence, it's as well to be upfront about it in your portfolio and then to cover the gaps as best you can. You might need to be a bit creative here and there though.

Chris
