Hi again,

Just another quick question - if I'm doing the skills test for ECR I take it I don't have to put anything in the portfolio for it?

Thanks

Lou

Hello Lou

Im no expert so anyone please correct me if I am wrong, but the portfolio is a complete record of your achievment so this includes the ECR, FRA and PRR these all need samples of knowledge and understanding including evidence of the skills tests, once we had completed each skills test and it was marked we were handed the outer cover (which has your details and tutors comments and signature on ) we placed this in the ECR part of the portfolio, this goes for the FRA and the PRR too, in each section we also had pieces of work to show our understanding. But dont panic the whole lot from begining to end was no more than an inch thick ( the whole portfolio I mean )

have you got your AAT student record booklet this details all the evidence you need to show in your portfolio
as first glance it looks loads but 90% of it is included in the skills tests

sorry for the delayed reply I dont come on here that often but feel free to ask again its no problem

good luck
PEA

ps all my class presented their work in a ring binder0 -

Oh right. I thought the point of the skills test was to show the evidence if you can't gather it at work?

Is the skills test not an alternative to the portfolio?

I'm confused!

0 -

sorry maybe i should shut up :-)

I dont know maybe its different distance learning but I did mine at college and had no work experience, as far as I know the skills test is just that, a test of your skill and understanding

I think the best thing you should do to get clarity is to ask your tutor

let me know how you get on anyway

goodluck

can anyone else help out here ???0 -

Like pea I'm studying at college so things might be different with distance learning, but this is my take on how it works.

In order to complete a unit, you have to have evidence of the required skills/knowledge as detailed in the student record card. Evidence can come from your work or skills tests supplemented with tutor set excersises and/or oral questioning. It's this evidence whether work-based or classroom based that goes into the portfolio.

So basically, if you're doing the skills test you stick that in your portfolio along with the bit of paper that says you're competent and any other bits and pieces you need to cover the unit requirements.

My class used ring binders too.

All of which is just to confirm what pea said

Chris

0 -

Thanks for both replies. It sounds like things are pretty flexible with the portfolio.

The problem is with distance learning its hard to get the right advice and to be honest its my tutor that made me confused about it all!

Things are clearer now though,

Thanks

Lou0
