Hi

I've been looking at the past papers etc and here are the things that I have noticed have not been tested so far. As I said before I'm not relying on these by any means and if anyone can spot I am wrong or agrees please say so. I haven't worked throughly on it yet and plan to next week just thought I'd share my thoughts so far.

Things I've noticed have not been tested in my research so far:

-Commenting on stock cards e.g. are the records following company procedures like minimum stocks and re-order levels

-Comparing different types of labour remuneration ie piecework, time rate basis and bonus systems.

-Explaining the terms allocation and apportionment? There seem to be lots of calculation questions and no theory so far

-Manufacturing accounts - these are a bit nasty so I hope not!!! If anyone knows a P&L and manufacturing account are unlikely please say so.

-Profit statements comparing marginal and absorption costing - highlighting the differences caused by closing stock values

-Process costing - I think this is a hot topic as its not been ever tested and its in the osbourne past exam papers and the guidence notes on ECR
Also explaining job, batch and unit costing.

-Closing work-in-progress - calculating the unit cost and value of work-in-progress.

Hope that all makes sense,

Torix

    Re:ECR exam predictions so far

hi tori i was about to post something like this today let me add my findings anyway

    IRR (internal rate of return)
    normal losses abnormal losses

the only good thing about the not really major parts of the sylabus and so will probably receive a few questions on the end of the section but yeah in general most of these subjects listed in this topic so far are pretty malicious and im hoping they dont come up :(.

I think they may test appropriation accounts aswell as i know there were calls for it tobe included injune 05 and if they didnt do so well on it in june they might keep it in to get students to understand appropiration accounts.

anyway tori i guess the oinly thing me and you and the rest of the AAT intermediates can do is study away and try and be as prepared as possible :)

btw are you doing both ECR and FRA in dec ?

Yes good call, I'm looking at normal loss and all that as part of process costing but the meaning of IRR could definetly come up (I'm trying to parrot learn it as I've only just about got the idea of its meaning in my head). There is some comfort that most (not all) exam questions are generally a little bit easier than mock sims and text books.

I take it you mean appropriation accounts for FRA. It was a hard question even though I had learnt that area - there are several ways of laying it out and if you look at the chief examiners report he/she does say there may be proforma layouts in future so they seem keen to test it again. I did FRA in the summer and passed yippee so I hope I pass costing now as I am really keen to get on with the Technician year with intermediate all finished.

PS Chief examiner reports are quite interesting I didn't bother reading them until right near the exam last time and they give you some good clues sometimes - as I'm sure most of you probably know already.

    Re:ECR exam predictions so far

ok had alittle read up also found out they havent tested

    capital/revenue expenditure
fixed asset register (knowing my luck this will come up)
    Gross profit/PV ratio

WOW your lucky I got my first AS level exam for Math In jan and FRA and ECR in December :( im so glad i only work weekends otherwise i dont think i could do it all.

I havent actually read the exminer reports well just have and i would welcome a set out appropriation account but at the same time im ok with it so wouldnt be to bothered but yes the question was quite hard i think they took it from a previous sim question as sims are usually full of pitfalls.

i think in cases eg P+L and BS are the same format all round and hence candidates dont have any problems.

anyway tori i must go i have physics in about half an hour and i need to finish my homework on "moments, couples and torque"
