please can someone offer advice on how to remember the calculations involved with index numbers and also the retail price index thank you

    Hope this helps

    Multiply the figure in question by (relevant index number / older index number)

    e.g 1
    Inflation - Question Inflate months 1-2 to month 3

    Month RPI Sales
    1 182 200
    2 194 230
    3 199 260

    Answer - Month 1 = 200 x (199/182) = 218.61
    Month 2 = 230 x (222/194) = 263.20

    e.g 2
    Deflate - Question Deflate months 2-3 to month 1

    Month RPI Sales
    1 82 421
    2 96 480
    3 99 490

    Answer - Month 2 = 480 x (82/96) = 410.00
    Month 3 = 490 x (82/99) = 405.86
