Can anyone put this in to plain english please - I understood it 6 weeks ago now I can't get my head around it all. Thanks if you can help.

    Seaonal variations are the difference between the sales in a quarter and the deseasonalised trend value for sales in that same quarter

    At the moment toy shops are busy - now is their season
    but if you took away the seasonal boost that Christmas provides, the underlying sales may only be rising slowly. That underlying sales value is the trend, and the difference between the trend and what really happened is the seasonal variation
