Help please!!!!

I work from home on my own and I am really sruggling to find the evidence for my portfolio. I don't really follow what I have to get and what needs to be written in student record etc... when I mention to tutor she just confuses me even more.....

I do accounts etc for our businesses on a computer accounts package, I don't have a manager or indeed a collegue to act as witness... I am really stuck just need some help to get my head round how to go about this and get started

Please any advice??

    Hi KLK,

    I too am a Distance Learning student, working from home and running my own business for which I do all my own accounts. I have just taken ECR unit 6 exam which virtually completes my Intermediate level and so far I have done everything via exams and simulation skills tests. The company I am doing the course through (FTP) sets the skills tests and I go along to their local branch and sit the test at a pre-arranged date and time. It's really just like another exam only more involved and I think slightly harder. But this means that Portfolio Building doesn't come into it. Speak to your tutor again, if you are not working in an accounting environment and work for yourself, on your own, then the simulations are the only way of being able to complete the course.

    I had the same problem. I run my own business from home . For most of the units this was not an issue as the evidence was covered by skills tests and some additional course work. Units 22 and 23 were a bit tricky as we were supposed to supply work-based evidence - I ended up with lots of personal statements and stuff along the lines of 'This doesn't apply to my work situation but if I was in a larger organisation such as X then this is what I'd expect...' It takes a bit of creativity and an assesor sensitive to the difficuties some of us had with this.

    Incidently, from this year my college are using simulations for Units 22 and 23.
