For this questions i just did the sale proceeds - the orignal costs as the other two thousand was a bonus( no cost value)

I did this Sale proceeds xxxx
less Orignal sale £18k (approx for 2000 shares)
- ( bonus)
= gain before taper

I didn't divide it divide by 4000 and times by 3000 as this would have given the bonus shares a cost value and they didn't have one?

Am i going barmy and having the self doubt thing that you do after every exam or i am clutching at straws trying to convice myself i must have done something right!!

With a bonus issue, the new shares dilute the cost of the original shares. So, with 2000 bonus shares, you should have divided by 4000 and multiplied by 3000.

Otherwise, what would be the cost of the 1000 left over when you come to sell them?
