Returning to AAT study after 5 years

Hi,

I would be very grateful if someone could advise me on how I should go about returning to the AAT.

Around 1999 I was studying the Technician level and achieved all units except just one, U1013769 Managing Accounting Systems. It was stupid of me but I failed the unit, the course ended and I was too lazy to do anything about it back then.

Now I really want to complete the qualification, but don't know what I need to do.

thanks in advance for any help!
regards
Andrew

I did the same thing mate.
Started the AAT in 1997, did the foundation and the intermediate, then kind of left it until last year. Pending results in February, I've now finished it!

When I started the AAT again, after my break, I called the aat, gave them my name, and they still had my details on the system. I then paid my membership fee to rejoin. I signed up for the technician course at college, and that was that.

As you stopped in 1999, you may have to do some extra work in addition to what you think you've got left. This is because they changed the 'standards' in.......... 2001 was it? Cant remember now.
Possibly means you'll have to completely re-do the technician stage again. Not sure though. Best bet is to call the AAT and they will be able to advise you.

    Hi

Check with the AAT to see what you need to do. You shouldnt have to redo the entire technican level. Some unit passess on the old standards can be transferred to the new standards. Also, any skills tests/devolved work youve completed may (with perhaps a little extra work) count towards the new standards.

Give the AAT a call first, a lot of colleges seem to get things like this wrong!

    Hi
I went back to study AAT in 2004 after a break of 6 years - had passed all Technician Level apart from 1 costing exam - am having to retake all Technician Level again. Seems a bit of a bind but if they keep changing the standards there is nothing we can do. Even having to do a make up test of Health and Safety !!!!!!!!

Well I think I can beat all of your replies...I did Foundation home study in 1990/1991, which seemed much harder than the intermediate is now. Was all exam-based back then. I then did intermediate at college during Sep 1999(once a week) to June 2000, and passed that OK. I actually bought the technician home study books etc for 2001, but never finishesd it. So I am now back at college (once a week again) and have done the budgeting, costing and variance papers in Dec just gone and will do DFS in June 06. I have found it all much easier than i expected. but in a way it is better to have the gap i had cos i cant remember any SSAPs, or FRS's so the IAS will be easier to learn. go for it. I got a 2year old, am selling myhouse, have started a new job and still managed OK with the study (and i was 40 last month...!!)
