Re:Setting up in practice
Hi,
You may be better posting this on the members in practice forum as they will be able to help you on this matter as a few members on there have done the same as you.

Re:Setting up in practice
It is always slow to start with, but I used a number of methods: Firstly word of mouth is always best - once you have one client in a particular field you will find that others do come along. I also used local advertising, such as charity magazines and local shops. The Thomson Local (which I assume is countrywide) also brought me in a few clients. Oh and I got one from advertising for Tax Return completion on ebay! Don't get disheartened. Do a good job at a reasonable price and you will soon find that you have more clients that you had ever imagined!0 -
Re:Setting up in practice
I would go along with TC - tough to start with, but a good job at a fair price - dont under or over charge to begin with - and you will soon have them coming out of your ears (horrible thought  wish I hadnt said that!)
Trawl back through the MIP forum - lots of us have given help and advice on this issue many, many times before.
All the best

Re:Setting up in practice
Be confident. Don't show the potential client how much you're shaking inside. You're a professional, so project the image of being there as the expert - but don't take on anything you're not comfortable doing and don't be afraid to tie up with someone more experienced to get advice.
I found that doing book-keeping as a subcontractor to a practice gave me good contacts for advice when I need it.
