Hi
I am currently employed by a Limited company as a Management accounts/ General Finance Manager. I am AAT qualified and get a good salary. However the work involves long hours and a lot of stress and i am 5 months pregnant. I am trying to decide my future after the baby and would love to offer accounting/ bookeeping/ payroll services from home for sole traders and small businesses. Are there any other qualifications or memberships or events i should try and obtain/attend to enable me to do this better and does anybody who does this type of thing have any advice on what to charge for their services?
Thanks

Re:New Start!!!
hi jodie,
You will need to apply to be a Member in Practice from the AAT in order to be self employed. You can get details on the website.
I recently posted a question on the Members in Practice forum regarding charging clients. I have had one good reply but nothing which gives a clear answer. I think it depends very much on the area of the country you live.
Well done on forward planning for when your baby is here! all the best for baby and business!

Re:New Start!!!
Hi Jodie
Many congratulations - i have been there and got the t-shirt - you get the best and the worst of both worlds.
You do get time at home with little one which can work well, but at other times you end up feeling that you have done a rubbish job to both your family and your clients - and you can never pull a sickie!! What I am getting at, is that you need to think about when you have been up all night with a sick baby, and still have to get a VAT return or whatever finished the next day - what is the contingency (I dont have one - only lack of sleep!)
Having said that i wouldnt change it for all the world - i have found that the good times far outweight the bad ones.
All the best.
Claudia
